Recent reports have suggested that the attack perpetrated by Hamas against Israel in the summer of 2014 involved beheadings of babies, but an Israeli government official has come forward to state that there is no evidence to confirm these claims. The official, speaking on background to CNN, characterized the reports as “pure propaganda” being used by Hamas to portray Israel in a negative light.
The rumors of baby beheadings have been spreading for several years, but credible sources have not been able to confirm such reports due to the lack of evidence. Israel has released video footage from the scene of the attack, but there has been no sighting of beheadings. In addition, no bodies of babies have been found that could be used to corroborate such reports. The Israeli official further argued that one must question the rationale behind Hamas launching such a “horrific attack” if there were even a remote possibility of it being true.
Though the Israeli government has not been able to confirm or deny the speculation, it should be noted that Hamas is an organization known for spreading false information and spreading disinformation. It is, therefore, important that we take such reports with a grain of salt. If a legitimate confirmation is ever released, then it could greatly affect Israel’s international reputation. Till then, however, we must let the truth determine the validity of the claims.
