GOP Speaker Candidate Releases 5 Policy Commitments He Urges Fellow Contenders to Follow
As the Republican Party continues to try to get its footing in Washington, DC, one GOP candidate for Speaker of the House of Representatives has released a set of policy commitments that he is urging his fellow contenders to embrace.
The candidate, Rep. Tom MacArthur (R-NJ), is making a big push in an effort to become the leader of the house, and he has made five policy commitments that he believes all his fellow contenders should support.
The five points MacArthur is urging his peers to embrace are a commitment to thoughtful and thorough oversight of the executive branch, an insistence on keeping federal spending under control and being mindful of debt reduction, support for Veterans Affairs, an effort to protect and strengthen health care for both children and seniors, and a focus on border security.
MacArthur has also promised to fulfill the GOP’s commitment to lower taxes, ease burdensome regulations, and to reduce waste, fraud, and abuse by holding government officials accountable.
In addition to these policy initiatives, MacArthur has also stated that he is ready to lay aside partisan squabbles to effectively serve the needs of the American people.
MacArthur is one of many contenders to be the next Speaker of the House of Representatives. His challenge to his colleagues to embrace these five policy commitments is certainly noteworthy, and it could be the beginning of some much-needed political unity in Washington, DC. It’s clear that the GOP needs an effective leader to steer the party away from the culture of perpetual gridlock, and MacArthur’s commitment to these policies could be a step in the right direction.
