Today saw a medical report issued on Donald Trump, the President of the United States. This was the same day that questions were raised over the potential presidential candidacy of Joe Biden due to concerns over his age and health.
Though President Trump’s medical report has revealed no quite serious ailments, it did identify that the seventy year old has high cholesterol. There is speculation that this is due to an unhealthy lifestyle of a diet rich in fast food. He has been prescribed a statin in order to lower his cholesterol and other lifestyle changes. Given his age this could be something of an issue.
Vice-President Joe Biden is not quite yet an official presidential candidate but questions are being raised about his suitability due to his advanced age (77). Despite reports of him being in good health and minimal treatments showed in his medical records, the concerns are still there over his suitability and health. It certainly seems that potential political opponents will be looking at this as an opportunity to raise further doubts.
What should be noted is that a presidential candidate’s physical and mental health is taken seriously. A combination of factors can affect decisions on who should lead the country for the next four years, and for whom the electorate will decide between, health is of course an important factor to take into account.
Regardless of this, the focus must shift back to the individual who is running. Lack of political experience, age, and a potential for poor health are all hindrances that must be overcome if potential candidates wish to be successful.
