According to a recent Fox News poll, President Trump is dominating Democratic candidate Joe Biden among voters under the age of 30. Perhaps this is not surprising, considering President Trump’s 2016 campaign was lauded for its unprecedented success in engaging with young voters. It appears that President Trump’s political appeal and policies still have a strong draw among young voters, trumping Biden’s standards and campaigns.
President Trump’s lead over Biden appears to be especially pronounced among young men. The poll found that President Trump had a fourteen point advantage over Biden among male voters, with sixty-one percent said they would vote for President Trump and forty-six percent said they would vote for Biden. This is surprising as Biden’s platform is largely associated with being socially progressive measures that are popular among young men.
The gender gap between Biden and Trump is less pronounced among female voters. Although Biden still trails Trump by eight percentage points, the gap is much narrower than among male voters. It appears that female voters under the age of thirty are more open to Biden then their male peers.
President Trump appears to be in a commanding position among young voters under the age of 30. Biden’s campaign does still have a chance to make inroads with young voters, particularly with female voters. However, Trump has established a strong following among young voters four years ago and this recent poll suggests that his popularity has not diminished among this key voter bloc.
