Honda Motor Co. recently announced a recall of more than 2.5 million cars due to a potential fuel pump failure issue. The recall affects the Honda CR-V, Civic, Fit, HR-V and Vezel models made between March 2016 and August 2018.
The fuel pump issue is due to a weak fuel pump drive shaft that may not meet Honda’s specifications, leading to a small amount of fuel leakage that could cause a fire. Honda is not aware of any accidents or injuries associated with this issue, but the company is taking precautionary steps and has issued the recall to ensure customer safety.
Owners of any of the models covered by the recall should contact their local Honda dealer as soon as possible. The dealers will replace the fuel pump free of charge. Honda is also urging customers to refrain from driving the affected vehicles until the fuel pump is replaced.
This is not the first time Honda has experienced a fuel pump failure issue. In June 2013, the company recalled 900,000 vehicles for a similar issue. This time, however, the recall affects almost three times as many vehicles.
The extensive recall highlights the need for car makers to ensure their vehicles meet the highest safety standards to avoid such issues. Honda is taking action to make sure that their vehicles are safe and reliable for all users.
