On Wednesday, during a ceremony at the White House to mark the Tampa Bay Lightning’s Stanley Cup championship win, President Biden made yet another reference to Vice President Kamala Harris as the president.
The slip of the tongue occurred when the President said, I know President Harris is thrilled. I am.”
This isn’t the first time the President has slipped up in addressing the Vice President. During a trip to Tulsa in June of last year, Biden said “the soon-to-be former President Harris and I” when introducing her to the podium. The President also accidentally referred to Harris as “President” while delivering his first joint address to Congress last April.
Since becoming President, Biden has made it a point to recognize the Vice President’s role in his administration. During the White House ceremony, Biden acknowledged Harris’ role in leading vaccine distribution efforts in addition to her dedication to the American people.
“I’ve known the Vice President since we were both members of the Senate. We’ve been working together for all these years. We know each other well, he said, adding “We speak our minds and laugh in the process, but she gets the job done. I know she appreciates the fact that this is an American victory, and that’s exactly what it is.
Biden later shared his admiration for Harris on Twitter, writing I’m proud of @VP for her tireless, passionate work on behalf of the American people. She deserves a great deal of credit for helping us beat Covid-19 and making sure the vaccine is available to every American who needs it. #TeamBiden
This slip of the tongue serves as a reminder of the tremendous progress that has been made in American politics thanks to the election of Vice President Harris and President Biden. It is a momentous occasion for the country and Biden’s comments demonstrate how invested he is in making sure the Vice President is given the recognition she deserves.
